You’re walking through a park and catch a glimpse of a couple in the bushes; friends FaceTime you, wanting to put in on a show… so, would you watch?

I have a confession. I like to be watched. Last week, I was doing a yoga class with my wife in our home gym. She is a yoga instructor and was streaming it on zoom to about 30 people taking the class. At one point I noticed I was out of the camera shot. I didn’t like that, and immediately repositioned myself to make sure I was on camera and visible to the 30 other class participants. And I’m not even very good at yoga. My wife found this hilarious — “you’re such an exhibitionist”.

Does this translate to sex? You bet it does. But not as often … I really don’t want to impose my exhibitionism onto others. I have found, however, that when my wife and I have been in a hotel room, I will get a weird pleasure from having sex in front of the window, where I know someone could look up and see us. Once, very late at night, we deliberately at sex in the settee in the window of our hotel, looking down at people walking in the street. While — as I said, i don’t like to impose my exhibitionism on others, my thinking is that if people are looking into the windows of hotel rooms they kind of know what they are getting.

Telling this story to friends recently brought up an interesting discussion point. If…
