Who Cheats More? Republicans or Democrats?

For all their talk of moral superiority, it seems that the American right wing is anything but.

I don’t have anything against Republicans. Their belief in free markets and smaller governments — as an economist, I can see their point.

But the social conservatives, with their suppression of women’s rights, their focus on the traditional family unit, their vilification of gays, transgender people, and basically anyone who isn’t just like that — that makes me shake my head a bit.

Through all this — especially the fixation on traditional family units — I felt they must really own the zone on morality. Didn’t they even call themselves ‘the moral majority’ back in the 90s?

So… you can imagine my surprise when I came across a research paper done a few years ago that looked at the infidelity patterns of those of different political affiliations.

Cutting to the chase — Libertarians (a big part of the republican base) and Republicans cheat on their spouses the most.

And Democrats cheat the least.

The study, from the National Library of Medicine, examined subscribers to the online website Ashley Madison — the website, whose tagline is ‘Life is short; have an affair.’
