Charlie Kirk, AOC, Bernie, Kimmel, Trump — They’re not the Problem — it’s us
Whether you are right or left of centre, or smack-dab in the middle, it’s hard to feel anything but totally fed up with the political and social debate we’re drowning in these days.
The culture wars have gone prime time and full time, becoming a spiral of hate, accusation, sensationalism, and finger-pointing that is tearing us all apart.
I read a column in The New York Times this weekend, in which a reader asked their advice columnists whether they could ethically hang out with another person who had not disclosed their political leanings. It’s not enough to refuse to hang out with someone with different political beliefs; even one who will not disclose is off limits.
Similarly, the Charlie Kirk assassination was not seen as a moment to come together and mourn the assault on free speech and democracy, but is rather a rallying cry from the President — of all people — to divide us further.
When left-wing civil rights leaders were assassinated in the 60s/70s, the left-wing leadership came together to decry the use of violence for political means and to call for the country to come together and heal.
